The E3 plan is designed to maximise all opportunities to save energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower energy costs for households and businesses. The focus is broad, but many major domestic and commercial products have been identified as “High Priority.” These include Lighting, swimming pool pumps, fridges, televisions and hot water products.

GEMS/MEPS (energy efficiency) FAQs

The Australian and New Zealand Governments provide a very comprehensive listing of all products requiring  regulation.  You can head over here, to determine if your products are regulated in Australia and New Zealand.

You will need to obtain test reports that are according to the right standard before being able to register the product(s) in the MEPS database. You must then affix the appropriate Energy Rating Label containing the information on your product which should then be clearly highlighted at the point of sale.

Once your product(s) have gained registration, it will be valid for a period of 5 years. Following this period, it will be necessary to renew your registration using the latest test report. You will also be required to provide the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority New Zealand, (EECA) with product sales, import and export data on an annual basis.
