Dangerous Room Heater Banned in Queensland

All room heaters with integral pins that plug directly into an electrical socket are banned from sale and use by the Queensland government.

The way that the device weighs down on its plug pins creates a bad connection with the socket which can easily lead to a fire or serious electric shock.

First identified in 2023, the standard was immediately updated to prevent this type of product from being available to consumers.

Despite this, a number of brands have been recently identified for sale via online marketplaces. Queensland’s Electrical Safety Office (ESO) is reaching out to those vendors to remove the products from sale.

The ESO is also warning people to only purchase electrical items which display the regulatory compliance mark (RCM) and to be extremely cautious when buying online.
